Book Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (No Spoilers!)

Boy, has Jo Rowling done it. I'm not sure if Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince isn't my favorite in the series. Before this it was The Goblet of Fire. But the two books are very different.
They are both very tight, but where Goblet of Fire is more adventure, Half-Blood Prince is more psychological, delving into the backstory of Tom Riddle, Snape, Dumbledore (a little) and others, where we get most of the answers.
We all had our questions: What did Harry get on his O.W.L.S? Will he get the grades he needs to be an Auror? Will certain persons get together? Who will die (Jo told us more would)? Who is the Half-Blood Prince?
Jo, herself, said her fans asked great questions, except for one thing: She wondered why no one had asked why Voldemort didn't die when his killing curse rebounded upon himself, and why no one had asked what he meant when he said that he had gone further into immortality than any other wizard.
All these questions are answered in this book, but along with the answers come new questions. I had a fleeting thought before I read the book, that a certain person would die, and it turned out I was right, but the big surprise is who does the killing.
The 'why' and the 'how' of the enmity Voldemort has for Harry (and why Voldemort didn't die) are taken care of. The big question left? Whether Harry will be able to do what he needs to do to end it.
Good editing, good character development and interesting backstories are just some of the things that I like about Half-Blood Prince.
I can't wait for the seventh book. Hats off to Jo Rowling! It just keeps getting better and better.

I'm Just Fine, How Are You?

Just to let you know, I'm not sure there will be any posts this weekend, seeing as how HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE IS COMING OUT! If I do, it will be to talk about something in the book. I cannot guarantee there will be no spoilers - however, I will warn you beforehand if there are.

Not Big Enough For You?

We keep hearing about natural disasters in the world. Funny how I never heard of this one on the news. Gujarat, India had massive flooding in many cities on June 30th, yet somehow it escaped our attention. Hmm.

Here is the city of Surat:

Short Movie Review: Batman Begins

Just saw the movie Batman Begins tonight. It was a good movie. They sure packed a lot into it. This was more psychological drama/thriller than action/adventure - although it did have action.
All superhero movies (well, the good ones) have an element of psychology in them. We get to know the reason(s) behind the heroics/villany. Batman Begins goes deeper.
We see the internal struggle of Bruce Wayne as he is driven toward his Batman persona. The character is much more defined than in the other Batman movie (released earlier, but telling the stories about Batman's later life).
We even get to see the beginnings of Commissioner Gordon, which is a nice subplot. This movie ends where Batman (with Michael Keaton) begins. Yes, I see the irony.
Anyway, all in all a good film. Go see it.

Non Sequitur Pictures

What is up with some people and pictures? I surf through the "Next Blog" portal occasionally and keep finding blogs where people seem to have to publish a picture with every single post. I am not talking about people who have picture blogs. I'm talking about regular posts where people just talk about life or whatever. The pictures usually don't even have anything to do with the post topic.

We get it! You know how to post pictures! Shut up already!

Uuh...what was I saying? I forget. Suddenly I'm hungry. I think I'll go eat something............

She Just Walks Around With It

I found this real-life story on purpletumbleshumble.blogspot.com and thought it was funny:

One day my mom took her four-year-old niece,Myra, shopping. My mother decided to try on a pair of pants, so she brought Myra into the dressing room with her.

As she looked in the mirror, it was evident that the pants were too small. My mom stared despondently at her rear-end. "My god, my butt is huge," my mom said - to herself and to the impressionable child. "What am I gonna do?"

Myra answered immediately, casually, with a wave of her hand: "Oh, my mom gots dat. She just walks around with it."

This is the end of the blog. Awwww.....
